Spread of new variant under control

SHILLONG, JAN 7: Health Minister James K Sangma on Friday said that the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus is under control.

“As of now things are under control and we hope that we continue this way,” Sangma told journalists.

He also expressed confidence that the state would be able to overcome the new variant.

Talking about the preparedness of the state, the health minister said most of the prefab structures have been completed.

“In terms of the numbers of beds we have a sizable number of beds available in case there is a spike,” he added.

Urging the people not to let their guards down, the minister said that the government is trying to increase testing of people to prevent spread of the new variant.
