Governor inaugurates seminar on ‘online teaching’

SHILLONG, OCT 28: Meghalaya Governor, Satya Pal Malik on Thursday inaugurated a one day seminar on ‘Online Teaching, Challenges and Opportunities”.

Also present were Prabha Shankar Sukhla, Vice Chancellor, NEHU who graced the programme as the Guest of Honour.

20 teachers from different Shillong-based schools attended the Seminar organized by the Society for Empowerment Education and Development (SEED), a nonprofit organization which aims to empower
the socially, educationally and economically deprived community through education and training in the formal and non-formal fields.
The programme was held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bavan, Shillong.
Addressing the gathering Satya Pal Malik said that the pandemic has brought numerous challenges to the country’s education sector. The introduction of online teaching has proven to be challenging to
both teachers and students alike and this in turn has had an effect on the students’ academic growth.
The difficulties in imparting online classes heightened by insufficient knowledge of digital method of eaching have also posed many challengers to the learning process, he added. He reiterated the
importance of the seminar in throwing light on challenges and opportunities of online teaching.

Prabha Shankar Sukhla in his address said that post pandemic, the ‘new normal’ is the increased use of web learning tool and e-learning is here to stay. Highlighting the advantage and disadvantages of
online learning, he said that in the present situation, the blending mode of online and traditional education is required as it cannot be conclusively said as to when the pandemic will come and end.
The resource person for the Seminar were Prof, Santa Ram Joshi, (HOD, Biotechnology, NEHU) and Prof. Subhas Chandra Roy, (HOD, Education, NEIRE).
