SHILLONG, OCT 26: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has threatened to take out a protest march to the secretariat if the state government delays in resolving the fuel price hike, which is affecting the people of the state.
Speaking at the sit-in-demonstration held at Malki ground on Tuesday, HITO president Donbok Dkhar accused the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government of being busy in campaigning for the bypolls to “fulfill their greed for power” instead of addressing the plight of the people of the state.
Dkhar said that the sudden increase of taxes on petrol, diesel and LPG have caused so much suffering to the common people as the essential commodities and taxi fares have also increased.
He also slammed that state government for failing to intervene into the issue. “We would be compelled to march to the secretariat if the government continues to be adamant,” Dkhar said.
The HITO president further alleged the NPP-led MDA governemnt is the most corrupt government in the history of the state. “They (Govt) have made so many promises but have failed to fulfill them,” he said.
“Before the 2018 assembly elections, the NPP had urged people to vote for the party promising to bring a change in the state, but now more than three years have passed there has been no changes in terms of development or job availability for the youth” said Dkhar.
