SHILLONG, OCT 18: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma said that he is the driver and the owner of the vehicle while referring to the Congress party in the state.
He was reacting to a recent statement made by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma that the Congress is without a driver and is a sinking ship.
“You have the owner, as well as the driver of the vehicle in front of you. I am the driver as well as the owner of this vehicle,” Mukul said while addressing a rally at Bhaitbari to drum up support for the Congress nominee Hashina Yasmin from Rajabala constituency.
Also present during the campaign were Rangsakona legislator Zenith M Sangma besides MDCs and other leaders of the party.
Urging the people to support the party candidate, Mukul said, “… you have seen our candidate, we are very happy that we are creating a history, we have nominated a lady candidate but most importantly this is the first time in the history of Meghalaya that we have a ‘Mahila candidate’ women candidate coming from Muslim Minority community, its the first, I am sure along with that besides other reason we have every reason to believe that we will get blessing for our candidate from the electoral.”
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday campaigned for the NPP candidate Abdus Saleh.
The by-poll will be held at Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala constituencies on October 30. The votes will be counted on November 2.
The bye-elections were necessitated after the deaths of two Congress legislators – David A Nongrum from Mawryngkneng constituency and Dr Azad Zaman from Rajabala constituency – and Independent legislator SK Sunn from Mawphlang constituency.
