Nongpoh, Dec. 28: The new school building of UPS and Secondary School of Umtasor Mawdakhar sponsored by SSA and Wildlife Department was inaugurated on Friday by sub-divisional school education officer of Ri-Bhoi Violin Lyngdoh in the presence of DFO, Wildlife Department O Nongbri.
The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 12 lakh
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh expressed her gratitude to the teachers and the school managing committee for running the school in a smooth manner despite many obstacles. She said the state government was very keen on implementing the Right to Education Act to eradicate illiteracy from the state.
She also urged the school managing committee and the teachers to make proper use of the new school building with the cooperation of the residents of Umtasor so as to ensure 100 percent literacy in the village.
Others who attended the inaugural function of the school building included former MDC of Nongpoh R.R Makdoh and vice chairman of MSLGC Donlang Sohkhlet. The function was presided over by A. Khongjoh, the headman of Umtasor Mawdakhar village. (By Our Reporter)
