The letter states that the United Democratic Party, in their party meeting held Tuesday, deliberated on the issues and concerns put forth by the Autonomous District Councils of the State to some suggestions of the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
The party endorses the decision of the ADCs to continue with the age-old customary laws and practices in matters of governance and administration of the tribal people of the state of Meghalaya and requested for the exemption from establishment of village councils and municipal councils.
UDP also backed KHADC’s demand for expansion of seats from 30 to 37 and replacing the word President in place of Governor in paragraph 12A subsection (b) of the Indian constitution.
Further the President of the UDP stated that they are hopeful that the stand of the State government commensurate with that of the ADCs and will yield positive results as per the expectations of the people of the state.
