SHILLONG, JUL 13: Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar on Tuesday inaugurated the Upper Shillong Water Supply Scheme (USWSS) at Water Treatment Plant, Maweitnai.
Speaking to reporters after the inaugural programme, Tongkhar informed that the USWSS is a very old scheme which has finally seen the light of day after 9 years.
“Of course the completion of the scheme has been delayed but better late than never,” he said while adding that the scheme would benefit over 47 villages of the area.
Stating that the MDA government is not a government which lays only foundation stones, Tongkhar said, “This is because our government is committed to complete all pending projects for the benefit of the people of the state.”
He informed that in line with its endeavor to provide water supply to each and every household in the state, the state government had managed to sanction an additional amount of over Rs 6 crore for the completion of the USWSS.
The scheme was first sanctioned at Rs 33 crore. “The department was able to complete the project at a total cost of Rs 39.95 crore,” the minister said.
