SHILLONG, JUL 2: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has postponed the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) and Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations for COVID-19 affected candidates to July 12.
Earlier, the examinations were scheduled to start from July 9 to 16.
Informing this on Friday, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the board has decided to revise the programme for both the examinations, which will now commence from July 12 to July 20.
He said there are 92 candidates who will appear for the HSSLC examination and 98 for SSLC examination.
On the concern expressed by the Opposition Chief Whip and Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie over the decision to conduct the examinations, Rymbui however said that he cannot have two different norms for the same students.
“Only 98 of 55,000 SSLC candidates have missed the examination and only 92 of the more than 30,000 HSSLC candidates are affected due to COVID-19…,” he said
“It is very difficult…but I hope that the people will understand that we are doing this for the interest of the students and also it is mandated that the results (of the HSSLC examination) will be declared before July 31,” he added.
Asked, the minister said there are over 18 centres for holding the special examination across the state.
