SHILLONG, DEC 20: The recently-formed United Workers Forum on Thursday urged the state government to revise the wages of the muster roll workers and the honorarium paid to ASHA workers before Christmas.
The forum is a conglomeration of seven organizations, including the All Garo Hills Muster Roll Workers’ Union, All GH Anganwadhi Workers’ & Helpers’ Association, All GH ASHA Workers’ Association, All GH Telecom Retailers’ Association, All GH Reliance Care Takers’ Association, A·chik Farmers’ Association, and All GH TSC Co-ordinators’ Association.
Forum chairman Rakkan M Sangma said the reason behind bringing the Forum was to work effectively to better the lot of the working class in the state. “The muster roll workers are paid very poorly. An unskilled muster roll worker gets paid Rs 100 a day. What can a man do with such a meager wage?” he asked.
With Christmas only days away, he said, the workers and their families have little money to enjoy the festival. “The Forum earnestly appeals to the government to do something good for these downtrodden people ahead of festival,” said Sangma.
The members of the Forum include vice president Darmen G Momin, secretary Phillip D Marak, assistant secretaries Cafieldson M Sangma and Salsrang Ch Marak, treasurer Mingjilla M Marak, organising secretaries Peldith Ch Marak, Akgriman R Marak, Bonting T Sangma, besides 12 other executive members.
