SHILLONG, MAY 20: Ten more persons have succumbed to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 389 on Thursday even as the number of active cases in the state crossed the 6,000-mark, after 1,183 persons tested positive for the highly infectious disease.
Six deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district while one each from West Garo Hills district, South West Garo Hills district, North Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
Dr War said the new cases include 656 in East Khasi Hills, 265 Ri Bhoi, 90 West Garo Hills, 53 West Jaintia Hills, 26 South West Garo Hills, 26 West Khasi Hills, 17 East Jaintia Hills, 17 North Garo Hills, 17 South Garo Hills, 9 East Garo Hills and 7 South West Khasi Hills.
He also informed that of 465 patients who recovered from the viral infection, 260 are from East Khasi Hills, 130 Ri Bhoi, 19 West Garo Hills, 18 West Jaintia Hills, 11 West Khasi Hills, 10 East Jaintia Hills, 7 East Garo Hills, 4 South West Garo Hills, 3 South Garo Hills, 2 South West Khasi Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 26,927COVID-19 cases out of which 6,477 are active cases, 20,061 recovered and 389 deaths.
With 3,755 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 823 cases.
There are 531 cases in West Garo Hills, 421 West Jaintia Hills, 254 South West Garo Hills, 223 East Jaintia Hills, 187 West Khasi Hills, 100 North Garo Hills, 76 South Garo Hills, 65 East Garo Hills and 42 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 5,23,287 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,96,360 were tested negative for the virus even as 1,168 persons are in institutional quarantine and 5,309 under home quarantine.
There are 1,19,183 entrants from outside the state.
28,392 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,431 had received the second dose, while 77,250 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,431 got the second dose as on Thursday.
Moreover, 2,38,767 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 28,246 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
