SHILLONG, APR 9: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National President of NPP Conrad K Sangma on Friday held a massive election rally at Ampati in Congress turf to seek mandate for NPP candidates.
“People from across Garo Hills have shown their support to NPP. We are committed to hear the grievances of our people and better the lives of our citizens. The wave of NPP is strong and we are confident to win over 20 seats,” he asserted.
The rally attended by over 8000 people was a show of strength for the party in Mukul Sangma’s stronghold.
Friday’s rally at Ampati clearly indicated that NPP has penetrated strongly in Mukul’s turf and has been able to position the party as a strong force to reckon with.
Chief Minister paraded all the five NPP candidates from the district from the five constituencies – Premish Sangma from Betasing, Thebarson Arengh from Boldamgre, Premanando Koch from Zikzak, Sanjib T Sangma from Dengnakpara and Lenikar K Sangma from Nogorpara.
He said that the party in the past six years has emerged as the dominant political force in the region and is widely expanding is based across the country.
“NPP is a home grown party of our people and in a very short span of time, it has been listed as a national party. In India, we have over 200 political parties but only 7 are classified as national parties. We should be proud and further come together to make NPP stronger”, he added.
Making a scathing attack on the Congress party, NPP chief Conrad Sangma said that Congress party has administered GHADC for about 20 years but failed to initiate any reform and development, however the NPP during its 3 years tenure has made an attempt to initiate financial management and better administration. He said that people of Garo Hills have to make the decision to vote for NPP and enable the ruling party to further strengthen the district council and initiate reform and transformation.
