SHILLONG, NOV 26: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday reiterated that the cabinet reshuffle will depend on the political decision of the respective coalition partners of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).
“I will stick to my commitment that I have made to the coalition partners that we will be giving ministerial berths in terms of the ratios of the MLAs. I stuck to that,” Sangma told reporters after chairing a meeting of the MDA coordination committee here.
His statement came as a reaction to the statement of the BJP national vice president and in-charge of Meghalaya, Dr M Chuba Ao that change of minister in the cabinet is the prerogative of the chief minister.
Sangma however said that the prerogative of the change in the minister is something which he is leaving to the respective political parties.
He added, “But there were certain cases in certain political parties where those adjustments and those agreements between the MLAs was brought to my notice right at the beginning of the term, therefore, as chairman of the MDA and as chief minister, it is my duty to ensure that understanding which was made known to me in the beginning of the term by certain political parties is implemented which is what I did.”
“If there were understanding within political parties, which they had but not brought to my notice, it will be wrong for me to simply force it through and that decision this is the second category of the agreement which was not brought to my notice will be decided within the political party that is there,” the chief minister stated.
