SHILLONG, OCT 23: A 24-year-old man died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 79 on Friday.
Jiten Sunar of Upper Mawprem, Shillong passed away at the Shillong civil hospital on Thursday afternoon after he was admitted and tested positive of COVID-19 on October 13, Director of Health and Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
“The cause of death was due to aspiration pneumonia with COVID-19 with chronic infections,” he said.
The state has also recorded recovery of 111 COVID-19 patients and 81 new cases on Friday.
The new cases include 51 from East Khasi Hills district, 21 West Garo Hills district, 6 West Jaintia Hills district, 1 each from East Garo Hills district, East Jaintia Hills district and South Garo Hills district.
Out of the 111 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 74 are from East Khasi Hills, 11 Ri Bhoi, 7 South Garo Hills, 7 West Garo Hills, 5 East Jaintia Hills, 2 South West Khasi Hills, 2 West Khasi Hills, 1 East Garo Hills, 1 South West Garo Hills and 1 West Jaintia Hills.
He said 7,091 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.
The state has detected a total of 8,801 COVID-19 out of which 1,631 are active cases, 7,091 recovered and 79 deaths.
East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,046 infections, that include 32 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,014 civilians, followed by West Garo Hills 178 and Ri Bhoi 158.
In the other districts, 79 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 51 in East Garo Hills, 47 in West Khasi Hills, 31 in South Garo Hills, 20 in North Garo Hills, 13 in East Jaintia Hills, 5 in South West Garo Hills and 3 in South West Khasi Hills.
Over 634 persons are undergoing home quarantine and isolation while 479 persons are under institutional quarantine.
“Till date, swab samples of 1,94,818 persons have been tested of which 1,86,017 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 51,332 entrants from outside the state.
