SHILLONG, AUG 20: The state has recorded the highest single-day spike of 126 coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the total active cases to 925.
Health Minister Alexander Laloo Hek said 106 cases, including 41 armed forces personnel, 39 random sampling tests conducted at Khlieh-Iew (11), Motphran (10), Anjalee (13) and Khyndailad (5), 16 BSF troopers, 5 staffs of Ganesh Das hospital, 3 CRPF personnel, 1 central government health worker and an OPD patient at Reid Chest TB Hospital – were detected from East Khasi Hills district.
He said the positive cases detected include 10 BSF troopers and 2 random sampling from Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills district while six returnees and a high risk contact from Ri Bhoi district, a health worker at Maternal and Child Hospital, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills district and a returnee from East Garo Hills.
Hek also informed that five more patients have recovered from the viral infection today, taking the total recoveries in the state to 730.
East Khasi Hills is the worst affected district with over 571 cases that include 356 civilians, 117 armed forces personnel and 108 BSF troopers, followed by West Garo Hills with 219 cases and 101 in Ri Bhoi.
In the other districts, North Garo Hills has 10 cases, 8 in East Jaintia Hills, 5 in West Jaintia Hills, 4 in South West Garo Hills, 3 in West Khasi Hills, 2 in South Garo Hills and 1 each in South West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills.
The state has so far recorded a total of 1,661 positive COVID-19 cases which include 925 active and six deaths.
As of Thursday, a total of 45,151 samples have been sent for testing of which 43,020 were found to be negative while test results of 470 are awaited. There are a total of 29,471 entrants from outside till date.
