SHILLONG, JULY 13: A woman was found murdered inside her residence at a village in West Jaintia Hills on Monday even as her husband, a prime accused in the case, has absconded.
The incident took place at around 4 am at Mihmyntdu village located just at the outskirt of Jowai town and district headquarter.
The deceased woman has been identified as Nimai Phawa. Phawa was staying with her husband Fortunate Pala and children at Nein Shnong locality in the village.
The heinous crime, which shocked the entire village, came to light after the 7-year-old son escaped death when he was thrown into a river near the Jowai bye-pass by the accused father, according to sources in the village.
They said the father had attempted to kill the minor boy to cover up his crime. However, the boy fortunately did not drown and came back to tell what has happened.
Sources said that Pala hanged his wife inside their house after he had beaten her up mercilessly.
Confirming the incident, district police chief Bikram Marak said that he is waiting for the report into the incident from the investigation officer.
Police sources also informed the husband has absconded from the village after committing the crime and a manhunt has been conducted.
Headman of the village Abul Phawa informed that the deceased wife had filed an FIR against Pala for torturing her and taking away over Rs 2 lakh and her gold ornaments on June 30. However, they later compromised and the complaint was withdrawn.
The body of the deceased was also taken to the hospital for post mortem examination and investigation into the case is on.
