SHILLONG, JUNE 23: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh informed that the construction of the new assembly building at Mawdiangdiang in New Shillong Township will be completed within the set time.
The Speaker, on Tuesday, inspected the construction work at the site and held a review meeting with officials from several departments.
Speaking after the inspection, Metbah said, “The completion of the construction of the new assembly should be within the time we have set. We intend to complete the construction by December 2021 to January 2022.”
He assured that the project is not facing any financial shortage and added, “I am happy that the Chief Minister also assured that special attention will be given for the construction of this new building.”
The Speaker also stated that the building will become a pride for the state after its completion and lamented why nothing has been done by the previous leaderships regarding the construction of a new assembly building in the last 20 years.
Metbah also added that since the construction of the building is massive, there are some problems that arise from time to time, but he said that he is happy with the level of coordination undertaken by officers of every department.
Construction of the Rs 127 crore new Assembly building is being handled by Uttar Pradesh based Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd and began in June last year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction work had stopped for two months but resumed in the month of May.
