SHILLONG, MAY 29: Six more returnees have been tested positive for novel coronavirus on Friday. With this, the total number of COVID-19 active cases in the state has climbed to 14.
“Six more residents who had returned to the state have tested positive for COVID-19. Of these, 3 are from South West Garo Hills 1 West Garo Hills, 1 East Khasi Hills and 1 West Khasi Hills. Now, the state is having 14 active cases in total,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed.
He said these are the people who have come back from different parts of the country mainly from Maharashtra, Bangalore, West Bengal and Chennai.
“Based on three-layered testing – thermal scanning, rapid diagnostic test and RT-PCR – we were able to identify these people and all cases are asymptomatic,” said the CM.
Sangma further informed that all the patients are undergoing quarantine at the different corona care centres of the government.
At present the number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 27 with one fatal loss and 12 others have recovered from the viral infections.
A total of 10,655 people including students stranded in various parts of the country have returned to the state as on Friday.
Earlier while addressing media persons, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that 6899 out of 7340 samples tested were negative while test results of 420 are awaited.
