SHILLONG, JAN 10: The state government has decided to launch a massive sensitization programme for the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016 to check influx and illegal immigration into the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma with the officials of the political department and the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills District on Friday.

He also announced that the sensitization programmes will immediately start across the state by next week.

“The Rangbah Shnongs and other stakeholders will be called for the programme on how registration should be done and who are the people that need to fill up the forms,” Sangma said.

Stating that the programme will be massive one, the chief minister said, “We intend to ensure MRSSA is implemented at the earliest in the state of Meghalaya.”

He also informed that the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills has also decided to call a meeting of the district task force, which was constituted as per the MRSSA.
