SHILLONG, JAN 7: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Tuesday demanded the state government to change its decision to appoint MS Rao as the chief secretary of the state.
In a letter to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma, HANM president Lamphrangsngi Kharbani said that the organization was taken aback to know that the state government has appointed MS Rao as the chief secretary of the state without considering the matter on seniority basis.
He said this decision has created controversial in the state and irked the sentiments of those who had the right to be promoted according to the service they rendered.
“(We) urged your government to change its decision and to appoint H Marwein IAS as the chief secretary of the state, failing which the HANM will have no other alternative but to take action and force your government to change the decision,” Kharbani said.
He also added that the HANM feels that the government should give preferences to a local residence and on the basis of seniority for fair justice and well being of the state as a whole.
On the other hand, the HANM has also opposed the decision of the state government to re-appoint IFS officer CP Marak as chairman of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB).
The organization in a letter to the forest minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the action taken by the state government will dishearten and discourage many government employees to serve the state on a righteous way as it shows that the government have no regard for the service rendered by them.
Meanwhile, the HANM demanded that the government should appoint YS Shullai, IFS in the place of CP Marak, failing which they will move ahead with serious actions.
