SHILLONG, DEC 11: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, today launched the campaign of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), ‘Opening Doors for Education to Children’ in the presence of Justice Mohammad Rafiq, Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya and Patron-in-Chief, Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority.
Speaking during the launch, Sangma, while congratulating MSLA for the unique programme to reach out to children who deserve education and knowledge said that the issue of education is a great challenge for the state and the country as a whole.
“The problems in the Education sector are many and the figures of drop outs in the primary sector and even higher levels of education is alarming and concerning in the State,” he said. He informed that Education is the priority of the government and the Meghalaya Education Policy which the state did not have for many years is now a guiding document to move forward in the education sector while addressing the many challenges the education sector faces. He also said that the problems in the education sector need integrated and innovative sustainable solutions by coming together of all stakeholders and departments. Lauding the MSLA for the campaign that would reach out to many children deprived of education he assured of all support from the State government.
Justice Mohammad Rafiq, in his Keynote Address said that the campaign is for the children of the state to bring back all the drop out children to school and protect their valuable Right enshrined in the Article 21 of the Constitution of India. He informed that the vision of the campaign is that every child learns, to improve learning and skill development from early childhood to adolescence in particular to drop outs, marginalised and those affected by humanitarian situation. He also informed that MSLA would play the role of a catalyst to the state government to achieve this objective.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Justice H S Thangkhiew, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya and Executive Chairman, MSLA informed that the campaign of four months would be pursued with the active involvement of different stakeholders like Education, Health, Law, Social Welfare departments.
Justice W Diengdoh, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya was also present on the occasion.
