SHILLONG, AUG 20: Teachers, students and staff of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have unanimously decided to form a joint action committee (JAC) in the name of saving the university from sinking.
The JAC comprises of the NEHU Teachers’ Association, NEHU Non-Teaching Staff Association and the NEHU Students’ Union.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, JAC chairman and president of the NEHUTA Dr XP Mao said the three organizations have formed the JAC in the context of taking up issues of serious common concnerns and issues pertaining to students, employees and teachers.
Stating that there were too many anomalies in the university, Dr Mao alleged the incumbent vice chancellor, registrar and others for creating an unhealthy atmosphere in the university due to violations of Act, Statue and Ordinances of the university.
“Compelled by the all out violation, failure, inefficient and incompetent handling of the affairs of the university by the incumbent VC and the registrar, the three associations decided to form joint Action Committee,” he said.
According to the chairman, the JAC would soon work out due course of action in order to restore healthy, democratic and congenial atmosphere in the university and to save the university from further sinking.
