SHILLONG, AUG 16: Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Health & Family Welfare Department cum Mission Director, NHM, Pravin Bakshi today launched the Rotavirus Vaccine (RVV) in the State at the Conference Hall, Meghalaya Main Secretariat, Shillong.
The RVV will be now be added to the routine immunization programme in the State of Meghalaya. This will provide protection against severe diarrhoea caused by Rotavirus. Rotavirus is a highly contagious virus and it is the most common organism that causes diarrhoea in children which may lead to hospitalization and death. It may also be mentioned that the 1st dose of RVV was administered on 13th August, 2019 at the Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Shillong.
Joint Secretaries to the Government of Meghalaya, Health & Family Welfare Department, DD Sangma and TG Momin, officials from the Health Department and representatives from the UNICEF and WHO was also present at the programme.
