SHILLONG, JULY 15: The Labour Department in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS) under the umbrella of the Government Project ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya’ (SHCDM) assisted by ADB observed the World Youth Skill Day today here at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong graced the programme as Chief Guest.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Prestone Tynsong said that the aim of skill training programmes is to enable the youth to hone one’s skill and explore employment options and opportunities in various sectors and to not only depend on white collared jobs. He also urged upon the trainers to extend all possible help to the trainees in order to get them established in life.
During the programme, the Deputy Chief Minister along with other dignitaries released the Skill Brochures and also distributed certificates to the trainees who have completed their skill training in various programmes.
Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya and CEO, MSSDS, D. P. Wahlang, Executive Director, MSSDS, B. Hajong and Labour Commissioner, B. Mawlong was also present at the programme.
As part of the celebration, Skill Training Providers of various Government sponsored programmes also set up stalls at the venue to enable the youth to obtain information on various sectors like Hospitality, Fashion Designing, IT/ITES, Healthcare-General Duty Assistant, Security Guard, Plumbing, Welding and Painting, Integrated Farming, Pottery, Handloom & Weaving etc.
