SHILLONG, APRIL 11: The overall poll percentage for the bye election to the Selsella Assembly seat was recorded at 82 per cent.
By poll was held along with the Lok Sabha elections to the two parliamentary seats – Shillong and Tura on Thursday.
“The Selsella by poll has registered very high voting percentage at 82 per cent,” state’s chief electoral officer FR Kharkongor told reporters.
He said the conduct of the bye election was by and large peacefull. The constituency has 50 polling stations.
The bye-election was necessitated following the demise of the Congress legislator and former minister Clement Marak last year.
His wife June Eliana R Marak is contesting from the opposition Congress against NPP nominee and former MCS officer Ferlene CA Sangma and former cabinet minister Sayeedullah Nongrum of the UDP.
