Shillong, Dec 5: Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) commandos rescued a coal merchant Dinesh Dubey from the clutches of the Liberation of A`chik Elite Force (LEAF) after the militants and the commandos exchange fire.
The LAEF had kidnapped Dubey and were on the way to their hideout when the commandos belong to the SWAT spotted them. Suspecting them to be militants the commandos exchange fire and the militants retaliated. The incident took place Wednesday morning at around 7.30 am in a forest near the Nongshram village in West Khasi hills district.
According to the police sources Dubey was hit by a bullet in the gun battle between the commandos and the LAEF militants. However, police said, the injury to Dubey is minor and he is said to be out of danger.
Police said that the intention of the LAEF to kidnap Dubey was to demand ransom from his family members. The LAEF militants, however, fled leaving an injured Dubey behind. The commandos are combing the area especially the forest areas to nab them. A police officer said that the militants cannot be far off and the effort is to get to them and nab them before they disappear into the “unknown.” – By Our Reporter
