SHILLONG, MAR 22: Former Tura Member of Parliament (MP) Agatha K Sangma today filed her nomination papers as the candidate of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) from Tura seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, to be held on April 11.
She was accompanied by her mother and party leaders during the filing of nomination at Tura on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Agatha said that the mood of the election will start from now on and her focus for the campaign would be on development.
“The focus obviously has been on development… in the last one year the state government under the leadership of Conrad Sangma has performed so well and people will appreciate that. I believe the mandate will reflect that appreciation of the MDA’s work,” she said.
Asked how confident she is to win the seat especially when she would be fighting against the former chief minister Mukul Sangma, Agatha said, “I am very optimistic (to win) as I really believe in the people of Garo Hills and I believe they will never forget my father for the contributions he had made and they appreciate this party.”
She added, “I am here to serve the people and I am really looking forward to the coming elections.”
