SHILLONG, MAR 13: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said it is not mandatory for Asian Bank Development (ADB) to sanction schemes to the state every year.
“ADB or World Bank are not government departments,” Sangma said while replying to a query raised by Congress MLA Process T Sawkmie on whether any new project to be taken up by ADB for 2017-18 & 2018-19 in the Assembly here on Wednesday.
He said it is the government of India which is taking loan from the ADB and convert the same to grants for the state government.
However, of the total loan 27 percent has to be paid by the state government as loan while 73 percent is received as grant.
He said the nodal agency at the Government of India level is the Department of Economic Affairs while in the state it is the planning department.
