Shillong, Dec 4: The High Level Committee on Influx decided to recommend to the state government the introduction of the ‘inner line permit (ILP)’ in Meghalaya to counter illegal immigrants. The final meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday.
“The whole consensus of today’s meeting was in favour for the introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state,” Deputy Chief Minister and committee chairman Bindo M Lanong told reporters after the meeting.
Lanong informed, “The final draft of the recommendation would be submitted to the government in a day or two.” He said the views and opinions of the NGOs would be taken into confident to look into draft recommendation for examination.”
Lanong, however, said the views and opinions expressed by members on the introduction of the three tier identity card system and other mechanism in the state will also included along with the recommendation to be submitted to the state government.
“Apart from ILP, the members have also expressed the need to implement the three tier identity card system so that the problem of influx of foreigners and people of doubtful origin will be handled in effective manners,” Lanong said.
Lanong said, “We have to forward the views and opinions of all the members for the government to examine.”
Lanong, however, said, “The committee’s task ends after it has completed to sent the recommendation,” adding “It’s up to the state government on when, how and in what manner it will implement the recommendation on the introduction of the ILP in the state.”-By Our Reporter
