SHILLONG, DEC 21: The opposition Congress today announced its first list of 36 candidates for the forthcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to be held on February 27, next year.
The list which comprises of 29 candidates from KHADC and 7 from JHADC approved by the Meghalaya Pradesh Election Committee (MPEC) here on Friday include the name of former minister and ex-MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh who will be contesting from Mylliem constituency.
Interestingly, Grace Mary Kharpuri from Nongskhen constituency, who recently quit the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), was also among the four sitting MDCs in the KHADC whose names have been approved by the Committee.
The sitting MDCs include Donevan Wanlang from Sohra, Lamphrang Blah from Mawphlang Diengiei and Blandingstar Warjri from Pariong-Mawthadraishan.
Besides, the list also include two former NGO leaders – Auguster Jyrwa, ex-KSU general secretary who will be contesting from Jaiaw constituency while Marbud Dkhar, former FKJGP Mawlai Circle president from Mawlai constituency.
The other candidates are William Mynsong – Jirang, Balajied Ranee – Nongpoh, Charles Marngar – Mawhati, Rocky Augustine Marwein – Umsning, Micky Dauglas Syiem – Umroi, Ronald H Kharumnuid – Sohryngkham, Clement Mawrie – Langkyrdem-Laitkroh, Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga – Shella, Rudy Hess Shangpliang – Mawsynram, Vicky S Lyngdoh – Nongthymmai, Fantin Joseph Lakadong – Laitumkhrah-Malki, Banpynshngainlang Rumnong – Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Haislet Kharhunai – Nongspung-Sohiong, Batskhem Ryntathiang – Mairang Nongkhlaw, Carnes Sohshang – Mawkyrwat, Airmarchal Diengngan – Langrin, Gabriel Wahlang – Nongstoin and Srally Rashir – Mawshynrut.
Meanwhile the candidates for the upcoming elections to the JHADC include former Council Deputy chief executive member Awhai Andrew Shullai from Jowai Central, Holando Lamin – War Central and Laitsingh Shylla – Ummulong Moodymmai, former JSU president Rikut Parien – Saphai, Aiborlang Shadap – Barato Mukroh, Hermon Phawa – Mukhla-Wahiajer and Losingh Lakuna – War-East.
