SHILLONG, DEC 4: Three drug peddlers including a wife of an ex-army official were arrested along with 98 grams heroin worth nearly Rs 10 lakhs from the city on Tuesday.
The arrested persons identified as Lal Peng Rowli (53), Rebecca Hmar (35) and her husband Vanlal Mawia Hmar (28) and were arrested from their residences at Madanrting Block D and Block F respectively during raids conducted by the district police.
“From their possession a total of 98 grams of high grade heroin worth Rs 9.8 lakh was seized,” SP (City) SA Rynjah told reporters.
He said while 23.42 gram of heroin along with cash Rs 34,760 was seized from the residence of Rebecca at Block F, 61.6 gram of heroin with Rs 1.41 lakh was recovered from the house of Rowli.
Rowli was also the wife of an ex-army man who was part of the war in Sri Lanka, the SP informed.
Terming the catch as a big achievement of the police, Rynjah said that the accused persons have been under the police radar for quite sometime.
He informed that all the three persons have been booked under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and they have been forwarded to Court.
Asked, Rynjah urged the dorbar shnongs to remain vigilant and have a background check on the people from outside the state who come to stay as tenants in their respective localities.
According to the SP, police have seized 1.5 kg of heroin and 20,000 tablets while 49 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act during this year.
