Shillong, Nov 30: The first Khasi Film Awards will be given in January next year to promotethe nascent local film industry and also to recognize the effort of the film makers in making indigenous movies.
The award idea was mooted by a group of Khasi film producers who have formed a group styled as the Khasi Film Awards (KFA). The KFA organizing committee member Wankitbok Pohshna told reporters Friday, “The Khasi Film Awards is mooted to give due recognition and honour the Khasi-Jaintia movies released in the past decades.”
Pohshna informed that the awards has also been conceptualized to motivate and encourage indigenous film makers in the state especially those who have produced movies with social messages.
Informing that the first edition of the KFA is likely be held on January 2013, Pohshna said, “The awards will be extended to those eligible films which were released till April this year for which the last date for submitting the nomination will be till December 15.
The awards will features the best Khasi film, best director, best male and female actor, supporting male and female actor, cinematography, editor, sound design, music director, lyrics, story, lightings and special effects, and best playback male and female.
Pohshna said, “We will be having a life-time achievement award in the field of performing arts named as ‘Jury Award.’
Elaborating more on the award, Wankitbok said, “Each category of the awards will be nominated by members of the designated boards including Director branch, writing, cinematographic and music branch.” He informed that the members of these boards are those who have five years of experiences in their respective fields.”
The nomination forms are available at Virgo Audio in Iewduh, Dolly Music in Police Bazaar and website – www.khasifilmaward.org which will be available from Monday next. – By Our Reporter
