SHILLONG, OCT 12: The Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM) has lodged a police complaint against Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) for its alleged negligence which led to the recent electrocution of a 12-year-old boy in East Jaintia Hills District.
In the FIR lodged with the Ladrymbai police outpost, JSM president Leningstar Rymbai said, “You are requested to conduct a proper enquiry and take appropriate action against erring authority concerned for negligence.”
It may be mentioned here that one Mardeiwi Rymbai (12) was electrocuted when he came in contact with the live wire hanging 3 feet above the roof of a one-storeyed building of the Government Lower Primary School at Khliehmyntriang village on October 4.
Rymbai said that the minor boy had gone there with the intention of drying his toys made up of soils adding however while standing to climb down the building, he came in contact with the electric wire which passes through the premises of the school building.
Stating that it is a matter of grave concern, he said, “The authority concerned erected the electric poles in such a way that the electric wires pass through the school’s premises posing an impending threat to the school children. The height of the electric wire is 3 feet above.”
Meanwhile, the JSM has also demanded that SDO of MeECL, Khliehriat to make necessary compensation to the family of the victim.
