No bright days for Congress: Lapang

SHILLONG, OCT 5: Former Congress veteran leader DD Lapang today said that he doesn’t see any bright days ahead for the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“I don’t see any bright days ahead under his (Rahul Gandhi) leadership,” Lapang, who resigned last month from the party, he had associated for four decades, told reporters here on Friday.

On the prospect of the Congress ahead of the crucial LS polls, the five times former chief minister further alleged that Rahul Gandhi has failed in many counts and reiterated that he is not a prime minister material.

“With this type of quality such people to be in the helm of affairs as Prime Minister, the country will go to nowhere,” he said adding “I am sorry to repeat this they have projected  Rahul as next PM but I would like to counter that Rahul is not a PM material as he lacks diplomacy, lack  in the way of dealing things, lack humility and he lack maturity.”

Stating that the Gandhi family in the past had raised many leaders who really can serve the party and the country, Lapang however said, “But sorry to say that this time they don’t have quality leader.”

The veteran politician also suggested that it is high time for the Congress to think that leaders should not be somebody from the family but ‘survival of the fitess’ should be order of the day and put the right people at the right place.

“You see I am not an expert or a fortune teller but why I left the Congress is that the way they are running the party is quite different from those old leaders who deserve appreciations,”  he said.

Asked, Lapang however maintained that he will not go back to the Congress even if Rahul is removed as the Congress national president but says that he still have high regards for Sonia Gandhi for being like a mother from whom he got many advices.

Lapang also informed that he is thinking of meeting her (Sonia) to thank her for her guidance and blessings but only when all the dust settles.
