SHILLONG, AUG 28: The state government is in the process of constituting the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the implementation of the Smart City project even as it decided to push the Centre for a more reasonable funding pattern.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling said, “We are already in the process of constituting the SPV for identifying projects to be taken under the Smart Cities Mission.”
He said that the SPV will be headed by a chief executive officer while officers and technical experts from the various departments of the state government would be the members.
Dohling further informed that the government is also contemplating to propose projects such as construction of parking space, re-development of Laitumkhrah market, skywalk, decongestion of Shillong city, and waste management to be brought under Mission.
Asked, the Urban Affairs Minister said that the state government would also urge the Centre to provide a more reasonable funding pattern for the implementation of Smart City project.
“Though the funding pattern is on a 50:50 basis between the Centre and the state but we have decided to approach the Centre to consider that the funding pattern should be 90:10,” he said.
According to him, the Centre is giving special consideration for the North East states for various centrally-sponsored schemes in which the funding pattern should be either on a 90:10 or 80.20 basis.
