PSC inaugurated

SHILLONG, AUG 1: The District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills has informed that the Programme Study Centre (PSC) for the Certificate Course in Community Health sponsored by the National Health Mission (NHM) and accredited by IGNOU was inaugurated recently at the Old ANM School, Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Shillong. Altogether 22 candidates enrolled for the Course in the Programme Study Centre.

            The programme was attended by Dr. J. Lyngwa, Jt. Director of Health Services (MCH&FW) Cum Nodal Officer, HWC, Meghalaya, Dr. N. Wanswett, Medical Superintendent, Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Shillong, Dr. H Giri, Sr. Consultant, Pediatrics, Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Shillong, Dr. R. R. Marak, Nodal officer, NPCDCS, East Khasi Hills, Academic Counselors for the course, Doctors and Health officials were present during the Inaugural function. The Programme was convened by Shri. Wishmanly Pamdhai, District Programme Manager, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J Lyngwa said that the Programme is one of the components of the Comprehensive primary Health Care Initiative under NHM. The Course is of 6 months duration and after successful completion, the candidates will be posted as Community Health Officer in the Sub Centres upgraded as Health &Wellness Centres under NHM. National Health Mission  has planned to strengthen Sub Centres as Health & Wellness Centers (H&WCs) for implementing public health programmes better and to enable comprehensive primary health care service delivery, including disease prevention and health promotion.
