Ban import of fish demanded

SHILLONG, JULY 6: Opposition chief whip Process T Sawkmie has demanded the state government to immediately ban the import of fish in the state.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Sawkmie, who is also Congress MLA from Mawlai, said, “I have requested the Minister in-charge Fisheries Comingone Ymbon to ban the import of fish to our state till the report of ICAR confirms that the imported fish is safe for human consumption.”

He said that this was after learning that the states of Manipur and Nagaland have already banned the import of fish after traces of formalin were found. A letter on this regard was also submitted to the chief secretary Y Tsering for necessary action.
