MDA will last full term: Shira

SHILLONG, JUNE 21: NPP leader and state Assembly Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) would succeed to complete its full term due to the ‘anti-Congress’ stand of all the coalition partners in the government.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Shira said, “All the coalition partners in the present ruling coalition are ‘anti-Congress’. This will help to bind all the coalition partners. I am confident that the present coalition Government would last its full term. May be it will go beyond the term.”

Referring to the coalition government which was led by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the past, he said that it did not survive since it was a lose coalition and had the support of only 31 MLAs.

“That coalition Government led by the NCP was bound to collapse,” Shira said.

The deputy speaker however said that the present coalition Government led by the NPP has the support of almost 40 MLAs adding that it is growing from strength to strength with the passage of time.
