Union health minister to convene a meeting with NEIGRIHMS soon

SHILLONG, JUNE 14: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda today assured that he would soon convene a meeting with the governing council of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) to address the various problems of the region’s premiere institute.

The assurance came after the health ministers from the Northeast region apprised the union health minister on the health situation in their respective states during a meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday.

It was attended by Meghalaya health minister AL Hek, Nagaland health minister S Pangyu Phom, Arunachal Pradesh health minister Alo Libang, Manipur health minister L Jayatakumar Singh, Sikkim health minister Arjun Kumar Ghatani and Assam health minister Pijush Hazarika.

During the meeting, the health ministers raised the issue relating to the shortage of faculty members in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.

Hek along with his counterparts also urged the Union health minister to fill up the vacant post in different positions in the teaching and non-teaching departments.

They also sought the intervention of the Union health minister with regards to the issue of de-recognition of the Post Graduate course at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong.

The state health ministers further presented the issues that need to be addressed on a priority basis for bringing about desired changes in the health scenario of the states.

Meanwhile, the Union health minister while taking note of the issues related to NEIGRIHMS, informed that very soon he would called a meeting with the institute’s governing council and urged the states for optimum use of resources that are being provided by the Centre.
