SHILLONG, APR 26: In view of rampant circulation of objectionable media through social medias and the e recent incidences of crimes against women and children, an awareness cum training programme on Information Technology Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was held on April 24 at St. Claret School, Ampati near here. Organized by the District Child Protection Unit DCPU, South West Garo Hills, Ampati in collaboration with the Police department, the programme aimed at creating awareness on various offences punishable by law under the IT AND POCSO Acts.
G R Marak, Deputy Superintendent of Police and T Marak, LCPO, were the resource persons for the daylong programme. The DSP spoke on the need to refrain from misusing the social media and post objectionable messages, pictures, videos etc that would amount to discrimination and attract severe penalties under the IT Act.
A thorough presentation on the POCSO Act was also given by T Marak during programme. She informed the participants of various offences and their penalties under the Act.
