SHILLONG, MAR 28: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) today demanded the state government to constitute a special enquiry team to probe into the recent murder of a youth leader from Jaintia Hills region.
In a memorandum submitted to the home minister James K Sangma here on Wednesday, BJYM president Egenstar Kurkalang said, “…we feel that an efficient and independent enquiry team should be constituted immediately for end of justice.”
Poipynhun Majaw, who was the president of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), was found murdered in Khliehriat, the district headquarter of East Jaintia Hills, on March 19.
The demand was made after knowing that the police are yet to make any breakthrough in the case.
Stating that the incident was a well-planned murder case, Kurkalang said, “This might be a plan of vested interest person or group to suppress the voice of the public or a responsible person from opposing any government department or agencies etc which is illegal in nature.”
He said Majaw was one of the prominent youth leader and active social activist of the region and have often stand against corruption and any malpractices of government department and other agencies which involve public interest.
Some of issues that the youth leader had taken was against the misappropriation of development fund by JHADC in the last few years, the non-compliance by cement plant factories in East Jiantia Hills District to environmental laws, etc, Kurkalang pointed.
Condemning the inhuman act, which is unacceptable in the society, the BJYM leader also demanded, “The culprit should not be allowed to escape from legal procedures they should be dealt with accordingly.”
