SHILLONG, MAR 23: Home Minister James K Sangma today said all-out effort is being made to nab the culprits involved in the murder of an RTI activist and a youth leader from Jaintia Hills Poipynhun Majaw.
Making a statement in the Assembly here on Friday, James said that an FIR was filed by one Sunday Manner of Iongpiah and a case has been registered by the Khliehriat Police Station.
“Investigation into case is on and all-out effort is being made to nab the culprits,” he said.
Majaw, an RTI activist who fought against the cement plants and the autonomous tribal council for embezzlement of public funds, was found murdered at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District on March 19.
A plumber wrench, used for hitting the slain leader on the head, two Rs 500 notes, spectacle and a motor bike were also seized by the police, the Home Minister said.
The home minister informed that the post mortem report is yet to be received.
Social activists of different NGOs have strongly demanded the state government to ensure investigation into case is completed at the earliest and those involved in the heinous crime be booked.
