SHILLONG, MAR 12: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said the government would prefer to present a full fledged Budget during the upcoming Budget Session of the Assembly, to be held soon.
“We are in favour of going for a full-fledged budget so that the work can start and we can move immediately,” Conrad told journalists at the sidelines of a cabinet meeting to discuss on the Governor’s Address here on Monday.
Stating that budget is being prepared for the whole year, he said that based on this, the cabinet will decide whether to go for a three-month vote on account or for a full-fledged budget. “So we are discussing about that issue now in the cabinet meeting,” he added.
The chief minister however informed that the main objective of today’s cabinet was to discuss on the Governor’s Address.
“It is to go into details of the Governor’s Address. Regarding the details of that, at this point I will not be able to discuss as it is (still) a confidential document. It will be send to the governor for his approval,” he said.
Asked, Conrad said that the dates and days for the upcoming Budget session will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). “Discussion is on and I think it will be very soon but exact date at this pointn in time I will not be able to tell you,” he said.
Admitting that it is the government that proposed the number of days for the session, he however said the government will try to ensure that sufficient time is given for both government and private businesses.
