SHILLONG, FEB 9: The ruling Congress today said the most visible ‘change’ that the BJP has brought about is the politics of hate and divisiveness among the different communities of the country.
“The BJP is a party that promises ‘change ‘ to promote hate and the politics of hate that destroys the social fabric of the country,” Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Sanjay Das said in a statement issued here on Friday.
This came a day after the BJP had filed a chargesheet exposing the various scams and failures of the Congress-led state government in the past 15 years.
He also assured that the Congress party will leave no stone unturned to see that the BJP will not succeed in their mission to change Meghalaya through their “politics of hate”.
“Congress has always maintained that India derives its richness from the diversity of its different cultures and its secular credentials,” Das said.
Further exposing the real meaning of change of the BJP, he said in the last four years of the BJP Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi India has witnessed an alarming rise of hyper nationalism and vigilante groups like ‘gau rakshaks’ who attack minorities and target people suspected of harming cows and consuming beef.
Such acts have vitiated the atmosphere of harmony that India had as a secular nation. In its place the BJP has brought the ‘change’ of alarming fear psychosis among minorities of the country, he said.
Secondly, the ‘change ‘ that the BJP brought after they came to power is the unprecedented attack on churches in the BJP ruled states like Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Churches where families with young children go to pray have been increasingly targeted by BJP allied groups.
Thirdly, the prominent visible ‘change’ that we have seen after the BJP came to power is the rule of the mob, how groups of vigilantes hold the state government to ransom and the government remains a mute spectator.
Fourthly, the rise of hate crimes during the BJP regime gets doubly fuelled by the hate speeches given by their leaders like Yogi Adityanath and Shakshi Maharaj. Yogi Adityanath had said in a speech that ‘ we are preparing for a battle of religions .
“But the most important matter to note is that these leaders are not pulled up nor action taken against them for their hate speeches but are rewarded by PM Narendra Modi and the BJP party by giving them positions of authority and made Chief Ministers,” Das said.
According to him, these incidents thus speaks volumes about the ‘changes ‘ the BJP party has brought to the country and the ‘changes’ they promise to bring once they come to power in an election bound state.
