SHILLONG, FEB 2: The National People’s Party (NPP), an NDA ally at the centre, today said only Janata Dal (United) national president Nitish Kumar can unseat the BJP at the centre and not Rahul Gandhi.
“I tell you may be in 2019, Nitish Kumar (also chief minister of Bihar) will be the prime minister…you mark my words,” NPP state president WR Kharlukhi told journalists here on Friday.
Asked, he said, “I will leave it to the intelligent of the Congress, but the way I am looking at it being from the North East that the only person who can unseat the BJP is Nitish Kumar.”
Stating that this was purely his own political analysis, Kharlukhi however said that he just predicting but it may happen and it may not happen.
“But the way I am assessing the political situation in India that is the only solution for them but not Rahul Gandhi,” he added.
Whether his statement will affect the NPP’s relationship with the BJP-led NDA government, the NPP state president however reiterated, “I am giving my personal assessment but it doesn’t mean that I am right.”
“We have to work with him (Nitish) as we need development for the state. After eight years, we need the help of the Centre to develop the state of ours,” he stated.
His statement came as a reaction against the repeated allegations made by the Congress that the NPP is being funded by the BJP and termed it as “ridiculous”.
