SHILLONG, JAN 17: A rape accused identified as Wanmi Lyngdoh was convicted by a POCSO Court for raping an 11 year old girl in 2015.
In an order passed by the Court on January 15, Lyngdoh was sent to 3 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 and in default of payment of fine, the convict will further undergo simple imprisonment of one month.
It may be mentioned that an FIR was filed on May 22, 2015 at Jowai Police Station by the mother of the victim that her daughter was raped by Lyngdoh, who hails from Muthlong village in West Jaintia Hills District.
The case was registered vide Jowai PS Case No. 98(5)15 U/S 4 POCSO Act 2012. The case was investigated by the O/C Women PS West Jaintia Hills, WPSI O. Tyngkan (now Inspector) and submitted her chargesheet on 03.08.2015.
The case was tried in the Court of Noor-Ain Khan (MHJS), Special Judge (POCSO) Jowai.
