SHILLONG, JAN 9: Taking development to the next level, Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma laid base for the construction of 100 Bedded Resubelpara Civil Hospital at the Community Health Centre, Resubelpara on Tuesday. Transcending from the community level to a district level, the Civil hospital will be constructed at a land spreading over 296 bighas at Chidaret, donated by the local Nokma Rangkame Sangma.
The laying of foundation stone took place amid the presence of Shri Salseng Marak, Chairman State Planning Board and MLA, Cherak Momin, Marthon Sangma, local MLAs, P.K.Boro, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dalton Marak, Superintendent of Police, officials of District Adminstration, Medical Officers and staff of health department and District Officers of various line departments.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma expressed his joy on being able to fulfill the demand made by the people and said “I find great pleasure in being able to respond to the expectations and aspirations of the people”.
Though the location of the land for the construction of Civil Hospital is a little long haul from the heart of the district but with better road connectivity and positive futuristic outlook the Chief Minister assured accessibility to all the people.
Sighting the importance of health sector and the problems faced by the people in availing health care services, Dr Sangma asserted that the state need to be prepared to take care of the medical needs of the people and further stated that the State’s agenda is to provide sufficient quality health services to the people within the state. Pointing to the lack of insufficient medical practitioners, he said that there are many talented youths who are willing to take up medical profession yet there is shortage of seats in medical colleges and said “we need to create opportunities for them by setting up enough medical colleges”.
Referring to Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), Dr Sangma added that people can now opt for Smart Card and avail treatment at both private and government hospitals affordably. However, he also expressed dismay over the low enrollment rate of Smart Card and urged the people to empower themselves by becoming part of the scheme.
Later, Dr Sangma also distributed M-TABS for students of Class XII. He informed that the M-TABS is pre-loaded with the syllabus for Class XI and XII study material, sample question paper for engineering and medical entrance examination, etc and urged the students community to make the best use of the technology.
Concluding his speech, Dr Sangma reiterated the needs to create opportunities for the young minds and highlighted his initiatives of setting up Medical Colleges, College for Architecture & Urban Planning which according to him will be the first in the North-East and two Engineering Colleges within the State.
Others who also spoke on the occasion were Shri Salseng Marak, Chairman State Planning Board and MLA and Shri P.K.Boro, Additional Deputy Commissioner.
