SHILLONG, SEPT 5: Opposition Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) today announced its second list of candidates which include a retired banker, a retired assistant researcher and a season politician for contesting from three constituencies in the upcoming 2018 state elections.
They are Blatsbor Kharpran from Mawryngkneng constituency, Renikton L Tongkhar from Mawkyrwat constituency and Droistar Khongsti from Sohra constituency.
The decision was taken by the state election committee (SEC) of the HSPDP in a meeting held here on Tuesday.
So far, the HSPDP has released the names of 13 candidates which include 10 in the first list announced last month. It may be mentioned here, the HSPDP will be contesting from 19 seats.
The party media cell in-charge Londoner M Sohtun said that the party would also soon release the third list of candidates.
Kharpran, is a resident of Sohryngkham is a retired branch manager of the Meghalaya Rural Bank. He was also the former president of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Sohryngkham unit.
On the other hand, Thongkhar, a B.Com graduate has been active in politics for the past 20 years while Khongsti, a double degree holder (BA & B.Sc) and a post graduate, was a former part-time lecturer in St Anthony’s College (1994-96) and retired as a research assistant of the PHE department.
The UDP-HSPDP alliance had finalized the seat-arrangement in which 17 seats are reserved for the UDP and 10 seats for the HSPDP while declaring nine constituencies as open seats, from which both the parties will have friendly contest.
Of the 36 assembly constituencies, the UDP will be contesting from 27 seats and its alliance partner – the HSPDP will be contesting from 19 seats.
Meanwhile, the UDP will be announcing the list of candidates on September 7.
