SHILLONG, AUG 3: An FIR has been lodged against a facebook group and persons making a post which has unnecessarily victimized a city girl and her family.
“The FIR was lodged at Rynjah police station and a case has been taken up against the Facebook group and persons making the post,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem said.
The post was recently made in a Facebook group of the girl charging money for sex.
According to the SP, the profile picture of the girl with explicit content were passed around which has caused distress to both the victim girl and her family.
Syiem said it is advised that anyone having information on any racket should report the matter to the Police who can verify the same and take action on the matter.
“However without any verification of the matter, some persons are unscrupulously spreading such unverified posts,” he added.
He said that police are taking note of the rising trend amongst the general public to post/share objectionable explicit content online on individual person(s) as well as spread wild rumours on social media platforms such as Facebook &Whatsapp.
Stating that such irresponsible posts can bring about immense harm to the person who is being targeted, Syiem warned that such acts are punishable by law and hence the general public is advised to refrain from vilifying persons using social media.
