Meghalaya govt seeks acting DGP extension from home ministry

Shillong, Nov 14: Meghalaya chief secretary WMS Pariat has sent a letter to the union home secretary RK Singh to allow the Meghalaya government to retain the acting Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Mehta till the end of November.

Home department sources told www.ohmeghalaya.com website Wednesday the letter from Pariat to Singh was dispatched Monday as Metha who is officiating as acting DGP was schedule to join his new posting as Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau in Delhi on November 10 but miss the date because the Meghalaya government retained him as the acting DGP.

Senior most police officer B Kezo was suppose to take over as the Meghalaya DGP after the name of five senior police officers were shortlisted during the meeting of the Meghalaya State Security Council (SSC). But Kezo, who is presently posted as DG(Prisons) in Nagaland on deputation, doesn’t appear to be keen in taking the top cop posting in Meghalaya.

Even the Nagaland government had written to the Meghalaya government that Kezo cannot be released.

The Meghalaya government   also doesn’t seem to be in hurry as to who should be appointed in place of Kezo as the next Meghalaya DGP. The Meghalaya government instead seems to be more interested in retaining Rajiv Metha as the acting DGP till a new one could be appointed and has accordingly sought as the union home ministry approval to retain till November end.-By Our Reporter
