SHILLONG, JUNE 26: Sylviana Lyngdoh Mawlong (15), who recently bagged the prestigious award as best female actor from the North East is aspiring to become a Bollywood star.

“It is my dream to go to Bollywood,” Sylviana said while sharing about her achievement in a press conference held at the Shillong Press Club here on Monday.

Hailed from a remote village in West Khasi Hills District, the teenager is studying in Class VII at Domkor RC Upper Primary School, at Mairang Bah.

Sylviana is considered to be the first teenager from Meghalaya to receive the Prag Cine Award North-East for her role in ‘Dak Bangla’ – which is the first Khasi horror movie, directed by Kitbok Kharmalki and produced by Justice Marwein.

She played a double role – as a mentally unstable girl, who was possessed by a spirit of a woman, who was gangraped and brutally murdered to avenge the three culprits.

The Award was handed over to the young talented teenager at Kokrajhar, Assam in presence of Bollywood Star Jackie Shrof on June 18.

Asked, Sylviana, who was also the winner of the Dance Meghalaya Dance (DMD) held in 2014, said her father Bobby Basaiawmoit has always been a great source of inspiration behind her achievement in the entertaining business.

Meanwhile, the Seng Samla Shnong of Mairang Bah has decided organize a special programme to felicitate Sylviana at Tirot Sing Ecological & Heritage Park on July 15.

“We are very proud of her as she has not only brought laurel to our small village but to the state and the region as well,” Seng Samla president Macdonald Nongrang told reporters.

He however lambasted the state government for its alleged failure to give recognition to young talented youths and promote film industry in the state.

“If the government can extend financial support to Rock On -2, a Hindi movie shot in the state, then why can’t it promote our own local film industry, which can give employment opportunities for our youths,” he said.
